Looking for easy last minute DIY gifts to give that’s everyone will love?
If you’re anything like me, you’re probably scrambling to find a gift for tonight’s holiday party that you were invited to over a month ago.
It’s ok, it happens #motherhood.
I’ve been in the position of needing a last-minute gift one too many times and ended up always just giving cash. Although everyone loves money, sometimes you want to give something a little more personal to show someone that you actually put some thought on their gift.
My favorite gift to give not only when I need it last minute, but something I always give to my loved ones are lottery tickets!
The New Jersey Lottery has 4 holiday themed Scratch-Offs available for the Holiday Season. These Holiday games make for the perfect gift, stocking stuffer and/or party favor for anyone on your list over the age of 18 and this year I’m so excited to share that I’ve partnered with them to share 4 of my favorite last minute DIY gifts using their holiday scratch offs!
In this post I’ll be sharing 4 different ways to create the perfect gift using NJ Lottery’s tickets. Keep reading to see how you can create a gift your loved ones will love in less than 15 minutes to make!
4 Easy Last Minute DIY Gifts to Give With NJ Lottery
These easy last minute DIY gift ideas are super easy to make and the supplies are extremely affordable. The cost of the gift can range from $5 ($1 NJ Lottery ticket + supplies) to $15- depending on which ticket you purchase. The first 2 DIY gifts I’ll be using the NJ Lottery $1 Festive $50’s- perfect for giving to coworkers or teachers.
Ornament DIY Gift
I purchase two different types of ornaments for this DIY- a disk clear ornament and a plastic water globe ornament. I fill each with 2 $1 Festive $50’s NJ lottery ticket along with some paper crinkle.
To personalize these gifts, I used sticker letters to write “Happy Holidays” on the ornament (you can even handwrite this with a paint marker, I didn’t because my handwriting is the WORST). You can also put another message or even their names and the year in case they plan on using this ornament on their tree next year.
I also added a red bow around the hoop of the smaller ornament and along the bottom of the globe ornament. A tip I have for putting a ribbon on the globe ornament is to glue it on so it doesn’t fall off!
Pull Box
This idea I got from TikTok! I’ve seen a few people make cakes stuffed with money, and when you pull out the tag from the top, a row of bills follow. Still trying to figure out the logistics of this money cake but found a much easier alternative for this DIY gift!
NJ Lottery’s $1 Festive $50 tickets are perfect for this because when you buy multiple, you can ask for them to not be broken apart. I used $20 worth of these tickets for this DIY along with sticker letters, wrapping paper, cardstock and of course, a tissue box.
I used a brand new tissue box for this DIY because we didn’t have any empty ones, but you can still make this with a used box easily! I first wrapped the box with wrapping paper and measured the width of the tickets. I then cut a slit on top of my box (if you’re using a used tissue box make sure the opening is the bottom) just a little larger than the tickets’ width.
I then cut out the pull card using cardstock and made it just a little wider than the lottery tickets, this way it won’t fall through the slit on the box. I added “Pull Here” using the letter stickers, tapped one edge to the edge of the first ticket, and started inserting the tickets through the box one by one slowly so they don’t separate from each other.
You can finish off this gift with a card tapped to the top or with a gift topper- I used twine and bells.
Money Tree
When money doesn’t grow on trees- you make it grow on trees! LOL! Making this money tree was also super easy and it came out cute. For this money tree I only used a cardboard cone, red ribbon and a handful of each of the holiday tickets, $1, $2, $5 & $10.
First start at the bottom and tape the lottery ticket to the cone. You’ll then want to make your way up, taping the tickets as you go. I had enough tickets to overlap but if you don’t, I suggest painting the cone green so the cardboard doesn’t show through.
To finish, I tapped one of the smaller tickets to the top as the “star” of the tree and wrapped some ribbon around it. This one is probably the easiest of all 4!
Lottery Bouquet
Last but not least is the lottery bouquet! All that was used is a small Christmas bucket (I already had this one laying around the house), pipe cleaners and crinkle paper!
I filled the holiday bucket with crinkle paper so it would hold the pipe cleaners and tickets up. I then tapped each ticket to the top of a pipe cleaner, and placed it in the bucket like a flower bouquet. Some of the tickets are bigger in size and the pipe cleaners may not hold them up so you might want to use 2 pipe cleaners for the bigger tickets.
To get the tickets to stand at different heights, I folded the pipe cleaners before placing them into the bucket. I found that folding them rather than cutting them shorter made them stronger- allowing them to stay standing up.
I love using NJ Lottery holiday scratch offs because they’re easily accessible and can be found in any brick-and-mortar retailer such as QuickCheck, wawa or 7-Eleven. Also, who doesn’t love the chance to win some money?!
